Clattering plates that will set the table for the Rosh Hashanah feast. The brightly lit house of an elderly Jewish lady who survived the war in a dark bunker. A group of female friends who look after the garden of the Liebermann’s villa…

Two generations after the Holocaust, it may seem like the memories of this time have started to fade, but in fact they are still very present, in the small and seemingly trivial moments of everyday life. Director Alexa Karolinski interviews family members, friends, historians, and acquaintances, accompanying them through Berlin, searching for traces of the past. She documents the multi-faceted signs of life, rituals and habits to emphasize how personal memories and collective history, inherited trauma and our present-day life are related.
